    Free Throw Instruction

    Coach,

Thanks a ton for that tip on my free throw shootiong.  I was just over 50% the previous 3 games, after shooting nearly 80% earlier in the year.  I did not know what was going on.  That key word tip was huge.  I went 11 of 11 last night and scored 42 points.  The key word really helped.

    Spencer Krannitz

7 for 19.

11 for 29.

1 for 8.

If these numbers apply to you, your team or you just want to make a higher percentage, consider a Free Throw Clinic from Basketball Basics.  Coach McGannon conducts all Free Throw Clinics.

FACTS:
  • 67% of points scored in last minute are Free Throws
  • 35% of points scored in last 5 minutes are Free Throws
  • 25% of points scored in a game are Free Throws

Coach McGannon will teach the 2 key elements to great free throw shooting:

1. Strong and repeatable mechanics.

2. A rock solid routine.

PLEASE NOTE:  this is not "pie in the sky" instruction.  Players will often shoot a lower percentage in the short term.  It takes courage to embrace the basic mechanics and control of the free throw sequence, and then to repeat the skill hundreds and hundreds of times. (thousands of times for players commited to be the best)

Coach McGannon was an 82% free throw shooter in high school, and 88% in college.

The free throw routine and execution of a smooth and relaxed stroke is IDENTICAL to the pre-shot routine and swing trigger in golf.  Different sports, identical approach: control external stimuli, relax under pressure, correct breathing techniques, simple and fluid routine, fostering an internal rythm, visualization and key words.

Coach McGannon played professional golf for 5 years and has a thorough understanding of routine.  Applying these methods, the mental discipline, the control and the ability to relax under pressure will improve your free throw percentage.
