Our 1st experience with AYBT in 2011 provided strong feedback that our approach can lead to highly competitive play if the kids embrace the drills, work as hard as they can and develop poise and composure even under tough circumstances. M-LIVE article

"I enjoyed our visit this morning and appreciate the work you are doing through Basketball Basics. Because of teachers and organizations like yours, Coach Wooden's philosophy and principles will continue to impact countless lives. I'm sorry that you never met him but you certainly have a connection in common values, the family is aware of your organization. He respected and appreciated what you are doing. He felt there was no higher calling than being a teacher/coach and felt there was tremendous responsibility that came with it. To make that point, he often said: "No written word, no spoken plea can teach our youth what they should be. Nor all the books on all the shelves, it's what the teachers are themselves."
Keep up the good work, you are on the right track. Best wishes for continued success.

“Thank you very much for putting together a league to develop players in West Michigan! At Michigan, we strive to be solid fundamentally on the offensive end and to frustrate teams with our defense, so we are definitely on your side! You are running things in a terrific fashion....keep up the great work.”

Terrific ties with local, state and national colleges. Coach McGannon here with U of M's Tim Hardaway Jr. Consider our Player Profile service, it works.

Remaining openings:
Shooting also on all 3 of these evenings
There are many local ties and friendships on teams from previous years. If the social component of these teams is equal to or greater than the competitive component, these players should consider staying with their teams. If however you are looking for the strongest potential for competitive growth for your son, our approach at Basketball Basics offers that. It’s also an opportunity to meet and play with kids from different communities with different skill sets. Again, this is NOT A LEAGUE. This is advanced skill development, leading to more competitive players.

Making plays under pressure. This is what we teach. Click here for AYBT March try out info/dates.

"I have 3 words for you after this weekend's tournament in Holland: "Stab and Recover." It is amazing how much Kody is learning from your instruction, and applying it immediately into the games. They had a successful weekend, going 4-1 against some tough competition. It's not often you see defensive technique taught so precisely. Kody is obviously benefitting. See you next week"
Rich Ambrose, Mason County rambrose@ccs-ludington.org
Coach McGannon note: this player (Kody Ambrose) is a very competitive player, playing significant time at the varsity level his FRESHMAN year. This Winter Series for Middle School boys is ideally suited for the best players, and for kids who are developing. We teach kids to compete to the best of their ability, under pressure and against players of superior athletic ability.
We only permit 14 players on any given night. This means only 2 subs maximum when we do scrimmage. (often times FEWER) In addition to the drills and scrimmaging, several skills will be measured objectively, providing a good comparison of the players skills.
Players will be challenged to learn how to actually “play.” Can we teach them to recognize certain situations, can we teach them to make plays under pressure, can we teach them to channel their frustration and disappointment correctly, will they become better players by understanding the game and not simply relying on their physical gifts? Can players win games with both their feet and their heads? Can we learn to compete and win versus teams of superior athletic ability? Can they embrace the role they are given and make the team better? When roles change (which is frequent), can they adapt?
Each game will be preceded by a 40-45 minute session of skill development. Included will be precise instruction on ball handling, passing, footwork, rebounding, conditioning, shooting, defensive positioning and developing mental tenacity/toughness. There are other winter league choices around but none compare in terms of sustained skill development and competitive growth. This is NOT A LEAGUE.
New this year will be an introduction to a basic MOTION OFFENSE, with basic rules to understand and apply. Within these rules, players have UNLIMITED FLEXIBILITY. This is a GREAT way to play and to learn how to play. This approach, based on a player's ability to see the court and react to both what the defense and his team mates are doing, will help players in any offense. This motion offense will be our approach with our AYBT teams as well. 1:51 Video example of the Motion Offense; the players will follow basic rules, and within these rules lie unlimited flexibility.
This series is highly encouraged for players planning to try out for our AYBT teams in March.
Our 6th Year of Winter Middle School Boys basketball. Players who attend improve. Many of the area's strongest players in recent years (and currently) have benefitted from our approach: see player list to the LEFT, many featured on our player profile service.
"Please register a team of seven 8th grade boys from Hudsonville Middle School. We have chosen 8 dates (6 skills/scrimmaging and 2 Shooting), the $160 fee per player is being sent to the Spring Lake address. The player's names and contact info is being e-mailed to you. Thank you."
"Please register my 7th grade son from Holland West Ottawa, I have mailed the fee in. We have chosen 12 dates. (8 skills/scrimmaging and 4 Shooting). They are included with the payment. Thank you. "
