"Winning takes talent.  To repeat takes character."       Coach Wooden

"The road to real achievement is usually bumpy and long, but you do not give up. You may have setbacks. You may have to start over. You may have to change your method.  You may have to go around, or over, or under. You may have to back up and get another start. But you do not quit.  You stay the course."

Coach John Wooden

Make a difference and a living......

Board Room Table

Our core values are:

1. Limit the number of players.  We specialize in individual work with each player, employee, committee, club or board.

2. Build competitive habits through the repetition and reinforcement of key skill drills and business tenets.  We are very patient.  We lead by modelling.

"We are what we do repeatedly.  Excellence therefore is not an isolated act but a habit."    Aristotle

3. Weave into the consultation the reinforcement of key LIFE SKILLS that apply everywhere, on or off the court, office or factory.  We are well positioned to positively impact your team.

Do not shy away from "No"...

When Basketball Basics was launched full time in 2006, we received little or no support from financial institutions, local business leaders and the schools generally.  We still don't.  "No" is simply a re-direction of your path forward.

"What are you doing?  Basketball instruction?  Are you crazy?"  And these were my friends!

Despite the uphill battle, despite the many challenges, despite hearing "No" as the rule and not the exception, Basketball Basics has experienced modest growth in what is nationally known to be the most difficult economic climate. (Michigan)

The idea behind our consulting service is to apply what we have learned to your organization, school, club or athletic program.  Obstacles?  Yes, there are many.  Naysayers?  There are more of these than obstacles?  Financial woes and shrinking budgets?  Tell me who is NOT in this boat.  Leadership vacuum?  Probably the biggest affliction of all....

Please note all of this is well and good.  And truly meaningless if you, your group or organization stop there.  Of course you want to improve and grow.  Of course you want a stronger brand, a higher winning percentage, happier members or healthier bottom line.  This consulting service will help you.  But the BEST ORGANIZATIONS do more than thrive.  They do more than profit and grow.  They make a difference in people's lives, in their employee's and partner's well being, in the community's well being and they often do this 1 kid, 1 person, 1 employee, 1 member at a time.  This isn't lip service or pie in the sky stuff.  You have to commit to making a difference and then follow through. Now. We provide tools to do so.

And this is often done quietly, with no fanfare, no newspaper articles, no chest thumping.

How does this work:

If your athletic department, business, club or organization needs to move forward in tough times, we can help.  Please call Coach McGannon and we can discuss the details of your specific situation.

I often hear how big the problem is, how pervasive the negative trends are, how used to losing we are, how we accept mediocrity or worse yet, expect it.  You have to start somewhere.  It's akin to the old parable: "How do you eat an elephant."  Answer:  "One bite at a time."
