Colleges are looking for hardworking, high-character, team oriented, mentally tough, coachable and unselfish players. Basketball Basics fosters these traits in all its' instruction.
Our profiles are based on having worked with and seen these players compete. These are 1st hand evaluations from a creditable source.
There are no guarantees of scholarships, NONE. But we do communicate with many college programs and have access to ALL college coaching staffs. Simply being known is 90% of the battle, and initial recruiting is almost always done ON LINE. We achieve high marks in both these categories.

College staffs often sift through hundreds of player names and evaluations. Basketball Basics provides a quick, concise and reliable report on these players' skills.
These profiles are a great way for the players to get their names out in the college mix, and also a great way for colleges to get a 1st hand report on talented high school players.
The ideal time to create this profile is sophomore or junior year (stronger players can consider being added freshman year) The larger the recruiting window of opportunity is, the better. College staffs look 2, 3 and 4 years out at talent on the horizon. While it is not too late to be added their senior year, many programs will have finished their next year's recuiting, or at the very least, have few if any openings for next fall's matriculation.
This one time fee covers a player's high school years. Included in this fee:
Communication with up to 40 college coaching staffs of the player's choice. (this expense can be delayed until the timing is right to broadcast the college staffs. For example, after a big year, or play off run, or state/local award.
This is a hard-target search with premeditation and insight into a player's potential, interests and future goals. The player identifies up to 40 colleges of interest, we directly contact those coaching staffs.
Going to $375 in 2012

If you're a top student-athlete interested in playing basketball in college, here's a quick checklist of things you need to do:
As a high school student-athlete, you may call, write, fax or email colleges at any time.
This is a basketball rule: as College coaches, they may call you on or after June 21 following your Junior year.
As college coaches, they may write, fax or email you only after September 1 of your Junior year of high school. There is no limit on the number of correspondences per week.
Unofficial Visit - When you, as a prospect, visit a college campus at your own expense. There is no limit on how many times you may visit a college "unofficially".
Official Visit - When you, as a prospect, visit a college campus at the partial or total expense of the college's representative of athletics (i.e. a coach). You may only take five (5) official visits in total and never more than one (1) to the same school.

Congratulations to Evan Bruinsma, named Class D Michigan's Player of the Year. Evan has chosen to play at a terrific D-1 school with an awesome schedule (Butler, Syracuse, others) the Titans of the University of Detroit!! Great job Evan.

We worked with Evan multiple times during his middle and early high school years in summer camps and Pre-Season Prep sessions. Additionally, he was contacted by Harvard, Davidson, Northeastern, Idaho State, Air Force and others. These college contacts were made directly through this service.
Coach McGannon,
Thank you for helping us navigate through the recruiting process for Evan. Landing at Detroit is a great fit, we are excited to see how he does next year. Your input and guidance helped Evan a lot. With schools like Davidson and Harvard in the mix, it helped move the process along with the other schools including Detroit. Not only were you instrumental in Evan's development as a player, but your opinions and guidance helped us deal with the recruiting process. Thank you again.
Henry Bruinsma

Coach McGannon is a resource for players and parents in determining which schools may best fit the player's profile. Typical reply below from a coach.
Coach McGannon
We could definitely use some size and I am still looking for a strong point guard. Keep me posted on players in this category. Great resource, thanks.
Adam Walsh
Part of this package will be to add a video link of the player to their profile. This will give a full picture of the athlete to the coaching staffs. There should be an equitable split between offensive and defensive highlights. This will be added to their profile link. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Recommendation on Video Clip:
1. Have every game, maybe some practices video-taped
2. Have some one in the stands (or perhaps the player him/herself) note the game time of a particularly impressive play or plays.
3. Over the course of 10 games, there should be an accumulation of game dates and times where these plays can be ripped from and placed on a highlight reel.
4. The total time of a highlight reel should not exceed 5 minutes. Here is an example.
5. Provide the clip and it will be added to the link. The player also can have access to his or her own link and they can do this themselves.

January 1st is the first day you can submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. FAFSA forms are evaluated on a first come first serve basis so you are strongly encouraged to submit yours on or near January 1st. Many states have a March 1st deadline, and in some states the deadline is February. You do not need to be admitted to college to apply for financial aid! However, you must be admitted to actually receive funds.
The FAFSA form is free. You can get a copy of the FAFSA from your guidance counselor, from the financial aid office at a local college or by calling 1-800-4-FED-Aid. The online version is available at fafsa.ed.gov.

Basketball Basics will field several AYBT teams this spring and summer. There is no better opportunity to learn 1st hand from Coach McGannon, who has a strong understanding of the skills required to play at the college level. He will be both the practice coach and the game coach for teams in the following age groups. Please note there are try outs for each team, and the teams are limited to between 8 and 12 players.
Girls entering or in High School
