Soccer

We are excited to announce the formation of Soccer Basics.  The Core Values that guide our approach remain constant.

  1. A limited of number of players
  2. Strong, qualified coaching with hundreds, possibly thousands of repetitions closely supervised
  3. Reinforcement of key life skills that apply on and off the field.

Please meet our soccer coach, Dan Hazekamp.  Dan is a terrific young coach and was a high level player in high school and college. I worked with Dan on the basketball court, where he was also an outstanding player.  Most importantly, I know Dan to be a patient, encouraging and kid-focused coach.  Your sons and daughters will greatly benefit from working with Coach Hazekamp.

High School Boys Try Out August 8

We are excited to announce that Soccer Basics will have its own private field, located in Fruitport.  This is a terrific option for your kids.  Small number of players, a terrific coach in Dan Hazekamp and no congested fields to deal with.

Soccer Field

In addition to our Summer Soccer Camps that precede High School try outs in August,  these Pre-Season Prep Sessions will greatly assist your sons in the following areas:

  1. Conditioning; players must be ready to compete and demonstrate outstanding physical condition.  PLEASE NOTE: players must be working on their conditioning ALL THE TIME.  These pre-season prep sessions will accelerate that pace just before try outs.
  2. Skills; Coach Hazekamp understands both the skills required to compete at the high school level and how to teach these skills.  Additionally, many drills known to be used in high school try outs will be part of these sessions.
  3. Mental preparation, tenacity and being ready to play.  It's one thing to be in shape.  It's another to have the skills required to compete. It's a completely different skill to be mentally ready to play, to be able to handle adversity, to be able to deal with failure and frustration and to stay even keeled in pressure packed situations. This may be the most valuable element of these pre-season sessions.

NOTE:  These sessions do NOT overlap with our Summer Camps.  Choosing both a summer camp and a Pre-Season group of dates is highly recommended.

While primarily for High School Boys, strong middle school players who want to test their meddle and see what a high school try out might look and feel like are permitted to attend.  We highly encourage this habit known as Playing Up.

Format includes:

  • 3 on 3 conditioning and skills
  • Foot skill prep and application
  • Shooting, Passing, Dribbling
  • Working with and understanding space (Recognition skills)
  • 1 on 1 attacking
  • 1 on 1 defending
  • TBA: Goal Keeping instruction based on coaching assistance
